My Evanescence Canvas

After being introduced, to some fab tracks on the Evanescence Album Fallen from a very good friend I found some of the images used were quite interesting and got the idea to make this canvas with those in mind.

Firstly I covered the whole of the canvas with tissue paper and pva, to help give it texture.

Then I covered a chipboard heart with tissue also.

Next glued on some sequin waste.

And trimmed when dry.

I used ordinary kitchen foil and rolled it into strips , which were actually quite strong.

I then glued the strips of foil to the outside of the chipboard heart creating an edge all around.

I laid the heart face down on new kitchen foil and folded it around the shape of the heart only putting glue at the back to hold down the edges.

Press the foil to the front on the heart allowing the sequin waste to create a textured look on the heart.

Dab acrylic paint onto the heart to cover with colour.

Paint an additional chipboard heart frame, this time i used gold paint to contrast with the purple.

By now the first coat of purple was dry so I added more acrylic, using dark purple , black , and just a touch of jade green around the rim of the heart adding alot of paint to get a rich dark colour.

Next I embossed kitchen foil in the cuttlebug and glued it to the canvas , very lightly so as not to lose the embossing. I found that the tissue which I had originally covered the canvas with helped to keep the shape of the embossing by stopping it from adhereing flat to the canvas.

I carefully painted the foil so as not to flatten the embossing.

I used some angelina fibres in similar colours after using a heart shaped rubber stamp keeping the theme of hearts.

I added the Evanescence image of a woman passing through an open door from a dark room into the light behind the gold chipboard frame.

When the acrylic was dry it hardened slightly and i added final touches of jade green and black to finish off the canvas.

I attached the hearts and the angelina fibres.

Then finished it of with grungeboard swirls and a key painted with the jade green acrylic.

My aim was to create a dark piece , which I feel I have done, I am pleased with the finished result and enjoyed making it very much.

So thank you to my friend for being the inspiration behind this canvas which reminds me of being in a dark place but allowing imagination to bring me out into the light.
You know who you are x

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you return again .

Cupboard needs to diet........

Well after having been open since the day I bought it I deicded to close my work station this year for Christmas.

I knew that I needed a rest and the only way to get one was to close it up so that I wasnt tempted. Fearing that there was an awful lot in there, I hid alot of the large items that had found a new home under the table in another cupboard.

I cant begin to tell you how shocked I was when I still couldnt close the doors fully. I couldnt believe it....now I know I have too much stash in there.

Theres only one thing for it......load the pictures on here of the things I have done whilst ive not been blogging and from tomorrow morning the cupboard gets opened up and let the crafting begin.......

After all I have to use up some of that stash......Surely the housework can wait when I have such an important task to carry out......I think its only fair !!

Apologies...to all my friends

Apologies go out to all my blogging friends , Im afraid ive been a terrible blogger since I returned to work.

However , I intend to come back if you forgive me ( hopes everyone can forgive )

Ive still been creating and crafting and Ive taken photos, so I think the best way is just to upload some of the things Ive been working on while Ive been away and then start a fresh with challenges etc.

As always the doors on my work station are never closed and I cant wait to get back into challenges.

Thank you for your patience , I have missed you all xx

Rubber Stamping on icing sugar .............

As I share my birthday with the anniversary of Elvis Presley I like to make something to mark the occassion.

Usually its a scrapbook page or some atc's. This year however as i needed to share a birthday cake with my son as we had a joint party, it was a cake that was made.

Years ago before i started crafting I made alot of cakes and spent alot of time decorating them to personalise them for people.

However when I came to do the cake this time I couldnt seem to get motivated to start. I was looking at my Elvis rubber stamps and wondering what I could make for myself and had a thought, what if the rubber stamps would work on icing? using edible ink pens to load the rubber stamp?

I set out and cleaned my stamps , then did them with antibacterial cleanser to be on the safe side and gave it a try.......................

I was pleased with the results , although I think it could have been better with a little more practice.
I will certainly try it again and my only real gripe was that it was hard to trim around the image once it had been stamped.
I found because it was soft , the image would easily get distorted so patience was needed( i need to get more of that !)
Also you dont need to press on as you do with card or paper as that distorts the image too.

I used football images for Andrew's side of the cake.

Anyway Ive tried it now so it just needs perfecting for the next time, I could certainly imagine a cake could turn out quite spectacular with the right stamps and design.

Let me know if you have used stamps in this way I would love to see what else others have done.

Thanks for stopping by my blog, and thanks for all the birthday wishes I had a fab day as usual with my 24 hour Elvis films and my champagne.......

This is brilliant , i love it !
