The Scrapbook Garden - Sweethearts

This is my 4th layout for this months design kit for

The Scrapbook Garden

It is My Paternal Grandfathers Brother Bill and

his Wife Isabel.

I started with the Bazzill 12 x 12 cardstock

Using some papers from the Basic Grey Sweet Threads

paper pack of 6 x 6 papers I cut out my title

an placed it up the side of the 12 x 12 .

This is a gorgeous rich colour and it matched perfectly

with the patturned papers.

I rounded the corners on the photos to soften them

and also on the patturned paper but chose not to matt the

images but to just layer the paper for a different feel.

I added my own script paper to contrast with the pinks

and lighten it a little.

Ive never been one for sewing but my Mother does the most lovely

embroidery and has done for years.

A friend gave me a whole collection of magazines

that you collect monthly about sewing .

Each month you get a free sampler and it builds up a collection.

Alot of them were not suitable for anything I needed

but a few were similar to the one below.

I thought it would be nice to combine them into the family albums

and a way of including something that my mother

had made also.

Ive used these samplers before , but this one matched

perfectly with the colours i was using.

I had some chipboard pieces so attached the sampler

to the back of one piece which looked like a frame.

Turning it over its made a nice embellishment for

my page.

I dont know alot about some of these family members

so i feel i need to use things which reflect the period

as specific embellishments are sometimes hard to find.

I stamped a couple of word definitions and placed them around the page

Added my journalling and thats it. Again I feel that this bright pink paper is maybe not one I would have chosen for a mans photo , but teamed up with the picture of his wife and a few simple stamped definitions both the pink bazzill and the floral paper work well I feel.

The Scrapbook Garden - Men At Work

This is my 3rd design for the Scrapbook Garden from this months

design kit.

As soon as I saw this paper in the Basic Grey Sweet Threads paper pack i knew exactly which photo was going to match it. Although the pack on first glance seems to be filled with the most delicious feminine papers you would be wrong as they work equally as well with masculine pages too making them a great addition to your stash . The handy size papers can be used for layouts cards or other projects.

This paper reminded me of a flat cap, with its distinctive check.

I added it to some 12 x 12 Dovecraft cardstock in Whipped Cream

and it matched perfectly you can find a range of Dovecraft cardstock here

its great quality and lovely to work with.

I stamped up some matching images using distress ink

to help give it that aged feel i also embossed them with Distress embossing powder.

The picture I chose was one of the Joiners and Builders

who used to work for my Grandfather and Great Grandfather

in Boldon many years ago. They are nearly all sporting their flat caps.

I used a wood grain paper to mount the photo and for the title

as the page was about joiners I thought wood should be in there somewhere.

I added some measuring tape and some little metal tool charms.

I added a metal disc which has the word 'Lifetime' on it as I

think alot of these Men spent their Lifetime in this little village

being born here , working here , and then sadly dying here.

There wont be any of them left alive now as this picture was taken in the early 1900's

Im pleased with my layout and Im glad I have this photograph of the men who worked hard for my Grandfather and Great Grandfather, and who helped to build schools , churches and houses in Boldon. As well as the joiners who helped out making coffins for my Grandfathers Funeral business.

JFF - All things Tim

This is my entry for this weeks Just for Fun

which is 'All things Tim'

I used some rubber stamps and some fragments

and a grungeboard letter , some Distress Inks and also

some Distress Embossing Powder.

The film strip rubber stamp and the quote at the bottom is not Tim im afraid
but I think they match in, at least I hope they do lol.

The Scrapbook Garden - Doting Grandma

This is my 2nd layout for this design kit for the Scrapbook Garden.

Once again I used some papers from the Basic Grey

Sweet Threads paper pack .  Its a lovely pack and the papers are fab.

I used some Dotted Swiss 12 x 12 as a base.

You can find a range of colours in this paper here

Its great quality and lovely to work with.

I added 2 sheets of 6x6 paper from the pack

in opposite corners, Next

I used a stencil and some Distress ink

to make a vase on my page .

My Grandmother loved flowers so this was perfect for her.

As the picture showed her sitting in a chair with 2 of her grandchildren (my cousins)

and 2 of her Great grandchildren (my sons) I added a sticker form my stash

of an old fashioned chair.

Next I added some of these gorgeous hydrangea petals and

leaves to the vase using some Glossy Accents.

The petals are just accented by a touch of glitter which gives them a great sparkle.

They have the most beautiful little pearl centres and they are a brilliant quality.

I added my title 'Doting Grandma' which she very much was

and some journaling , I used a die cut shape beneath

the journaling to make it look as though it was on

a little stand.

And thats my page, It was quick and easy to do

and the papers from the paper pack matched well with the picture.

Theres lots of scope with these papers they have so many colours in them they would

match with lots of other colour ranges.

Altered Dominoes

A while ago I visited Ink Stains

and was delighted with all the treasures

that were being created there.

I found the details of how to make a Dominoe

accordian book and since then Ive gone on to make

many for myself and my family and as small gifts for friends.

But i had stopped there , so I thought it was time to

have a little play at altering somemore dominoes

and using them for other things .

I got myself some nice new clean felt , a selection of inks

and a new box of dominoes.

Its as easy in that all you do is drop a couple of drops of ink onto the dominoe

and using the ink blending tool with some felt attached to it, blot the dominoe

and the colour emerges

Then stamp on an image, I used versamark at first and it didnt dry so I used black embossing powder and a heat gun to the first batch, then i used black stazon with the next lot and they dried brilliantly. Although I love the embossing I found I lost a little detail in those ones , the image wasnt as sharp.

It wasnt long before i was addicted

and pretty soon I had used up the whole box of dominoes

Even making a 6 tile set which will go into a frame

Ive got a great selection now of dominoes ready to add to projects. Im delighted
with the colours and patturns I love them, needless to say ive been out and bought
more dominoes to make more.

Coasters - Mona and Frida

I picked up some of these coasters blanks at a craft

fair a while back hoping they may come in handy.

After choosing some nice paper to make the inserts

and i used the Basic Grey Sweet Threads paper pad

I cut my paper to the correct size to fit into the 

coaster blank. 

Next I chose my stamps for my images

After stamping the ladies I added some

little stamped quotes and  a couple of date

stamp stamps.

Then popped them into the coaster blanks

and fastened on the backs.

They were easy and simple to make

and make a lovely coaster for my crafting table

or to give as a little gift , you could put in a nice

inspirational quote , the list is endless really.
